Description
After the impressive debut of the C2 manual coffee grinder in the entry-level segment, the Timemore brand has gradually carved out its place in the specialty coffee market, expanding beyond its home base in China to other markets around the world. Recently, to reaffirm its commitment as a manufacturer that always listens to its users and continuously improves to deliver high-quality products, Timemore has launched an upgraded version: the Timemore C2S. This new model is the main subject of the upcoming article by The Nob. With enhancements aimed at optimizing the user experience, the C2S promises to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, the C2, and become the new king of coffee grinder popularity in the coffee enthusiast community.
External Design Improvements…
The changes to the C2S come from its design. Timemore has introduced a series of improvements in this upgrade, such as the addition of crocodile leather patterns on the body, which, combined with the smooth hopper, gives the product a distinctive look and enhances grip friction. The base of the product is also equipped with anti-slip rubber, which reduces scratches when the grinder comes into contact with surfaces. The handle knob on the C2S has been replaced with an aluminum-coated one, giving it a more luxurious feel compared to the plastic version on the old model. These upgrades are all aimed at improving the product’s exterior, dispelling the notion of it being a “cheap product” in the eyes of many.
…and Internal Enhancements
However, the improvements go beyond just cosmetic design changes. Even the smallest details on the C2S have been upgraded. Now, the shaft housing on the Timemore C2S is made from solid metal, offering much more precise concentricity compared to the plastic assembly used in the previous version. This makes the grinding process smoother and slightly increases the capacity for coffee beans that can be ground in one go.
Another minor upgrade on the C2S is the grind adjustment knob and dial. With the C2S, users will experience a metal CNC-cut dial, offering sharper precision compared to the older version. Based on initial observations and real-world use, The Nob has found that the new knob and dial feel much smoother when adjusted, making the grind size adjustmenta process much more pleasant.
A worthy upgrade of Timemore C2
The C2S can be considered a light upgrade from Timemore, designed to address the lingering shortcomings of the C2 while, of course, maintaining the strengths of the original product. With a 38mm, 5-blade stainless steel burr, CNC precision cutting, and a micro-adjustment step of just 0.0833mm, the C2S provides a more accurate and efficient grinding experience than many grinders with ceramic or die-cast steel burrs commonly available on the market, minimizing the production of fine coffee grounds during the process. The product can hold approximately 25g of coffee beans per grind, making it suitable for a wide range of brewing methods. Based on practical experience, The Nob recommends using the C2S for brewing methods such as pour-over, Vietnamese drip coffee (phin), and moka pot for the best results.

How to Adjust the Grind Size on the Timemore C2S:
The grind size adjustment mechanism of the Timemore C2S is based on a “click” dial at the bottom of the grinder, allowing users to fine-tune the grind size and prevent any inconsistencies during the grinding process.
Remove the coffee container, flip the grinder over, and turn the adjustment knob clockwise to the finest setting (fine), until it can no longer turn, marking “zero click.”
Then, gradually rotate the knob counterclockwise. With each click, the grinder will move to the next grind size. Count the clicks to reach your desired grind size.
Recommended Grind Settings
- Espresso: 11-14 clicks (refer to the note below)
- Pour Over: 18-24 clicks
- French Press: 20-30 clicks
Note: Can the Timemore C2S grind for espresso?
Regarding this question, The Nob Coffee would like to answer as follows: For some home espresso machines, such as Delonghi and Breville with a dual-layer filter basket, the Timemore C2S performs well (the burrs in the Breville grinders are also 38mm conical burrs). The ideal grind size for these machines is between 10-12 clicks (using a dual-layer filter basket, also known as a pressurized basket).
The Timemore C2S is not capable of grinding espresso for professional machines (or those using a single-layer filter basket). Examples of machines that are not compatible include the Flair Pro 2, 9Barista, Gaggia Classic, and larger machines with group heads such as E61.
For other espresso brewing devices like the Staresso or , the grind size should range from 10-13 clicks, depending on the coffee beans (bean type and roast level).
